Begin a new season of learning and growth with prayer and blessing. Students of all ages, teachers, administrators, and all care and support staff are invited during worship on Sunday, August 18 (onsite and online) to receive a blessing for a year of brave and safe learning. You may bring a memento or token (like a backpack or laptop) as a symbol of learning and growth. Open our hearts to become people with and for others.
Learning Ministry Update | April 14
Thank you to Gwen Flory for her session, Every Day Is Earth Day, for adult faith formation last Sunday. Thanks also goes to Leigh Northcutt-Benson for leading the first week in our children’s faith formation rotation on the Parable of the Prodigal Son.
On Sunday, April 14, children will gather in the library for an encore session on the Prodigal Son with Leigh Northcutt-Benson at 9am. Adults will convene in the parlor at 9am. LaRu Woody will lead a follow-up session to talk about some of the issues raised in Leigh Northcutt-Benson’s previous discussion of mass incarceration and the book, The New Jim Crow. In this session we will be exploring questions related to punishment in the criminal justice system. LaRu will give a “nuts and bolts” presentation of accountability in Texas criminal courts. Come prepared to talk about the theories of punishment, sentencing practices, Texas law and how would YOU decide?
Please mark your calendars for Sunday, April 21: Bailey Barlow will be leading children’s faith formation and Bob Brueck will conclude his sessions on the Dead Sea Scrolls and Metaphysics. The link to Bob’s handouts is here. Upcoming session will be announced soon.

Learning Ministry Update: March 20, 2024
Learning Ministry Update
We had a well-attended intergenerational Faith Formation session on Sunday, March 17, where we discussed the topic of Prayer. We prayed together and among each other in a variety of ways, including creating a web of prayer, tossing a yarn ball to each participant who added to our community Talk with God.
Adult Faith Formation will not meet on Palm Sunday or Easter Sunday to accommodate participants to have more time to prepare for Holy Week worship. We will reconvene on April 7 with Gwen Flory’s session, Every day is Earth Day: actionable ways each of us can help protect our planet.
Children’s Faith Formation: Nancy Baden will be leading Faith Formation for children on March 24 at 9am in the Library. Children will be learning about Holy Week. There will be no Children’s Faith Formation Easter Sunday. Join us for an Easter Egg Hunt during Hospitality after Easter Sunday Worship. Bring your baskets!
As always, you can find further events on our Calendar.

Learning Ministry Survey
FELC Learning Ministry leadership (Betsy Appleton, chair, Henri Atkinson and Anne Wiebe) would like to gather more information as we plan for the future of faith formation programming at FELC. We have prepared this survey to help organize your input. If you tried to fill out the survey and were only able to submit answers about basic demographic information, please try again. We corrected the bug reported by many would-be participants by putting the full survey on one page instead of three. The survey gathers basic demographic information, addresses how we may envision learning ministry for all generations, and finally addresses scheduling/time commitments you and your family can make to participate in Learning Ministry. Thank you so much for providing information that will shape our approach to faith formation in our FELC community.
Please fill out this survey by September 17 so your input is available when we meet to go over responses on or shortly after this date. If you have any questions please contact Betsy Appleton at either betsy.appleton@gmail.com.
