Summer Adult Forum: On the Way with Jesus: A Pragmatic, Experiential, Post-Metaphysical, Christian Faith for Experiencing God
with Pastor Michael Coffey
“I have been pondering for a long time how to write a theology that does not make use of the ancient Greek metaphysical assumptions that undergird the Christian dogmatic tradition. There’s nothing wrong with that tradition, but those assumptions are not necessary to faithfully express our faith.
As I work on giving this theology content, I invite you to join me for a series of adult forums as I explore with you how our Christian faith can be expressed in a way that is meaningful, active, and faithful. Your thoughts and questions will help shape my work and will give me much needed insight.
While we will touch on some philosophical and theological big ideas, we won’t spend too much time on those. Rather, we will explore what it means to live our Christian faith as we experience God on the way with Jesus.
I hope you’ll consider joining me as we explore this topic together and offer your feedback to help guide me in this writing project.
Meeting will be on Zoom for this series of conversations on the following Tuesdays at 7 PM: June 14, June 21, and June 28; July 19 and July 26.
We will use the FELC Community Zoom link found at the end of each weekly email news..

Carl Jung and Christian Spirituality: February Adult Forum
Carl Jung was the pioneer of analytical psychology. He diverged from some of Freud’s assumptions about the human psyche and focused on archetypes, religion, aspirations, the unconscious, dreams, the shadow self, and seeking wholeness. Much of Jung’s work has been influential in Christian spirituality in the past century.
Pastor Coffey presented on numerous aspects of analytical psychology and Christian spirituality. Participants explored how Jung’s work may be helpful in understanding one’s own faith, experience, and history.

Micah 6 Ministry
The Micah 6 Street Youth program is a series of services supporting young adults 30 and younger who are street dependent. Housed in University Baptist Church (UBC) near the UT campus, there are drop-in times on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Computer labs, a hot, home cooked meal, snacks, basic clothing, TV, a laundry, and toiletries are provided. Together, the Micah 6 partner churches, including First English, and additional individuals have served more than 10,000 meals in ten years. A safe place out of the elements and some essential services (that most of us take for granted!) is a keystone of this ministry.
